We work closely with a few community partners who help with the funding or in other ways.
The program is funded by the City of Thunder Bay and delivered by EcoSuperior, but there are a few other community partners we work closely with, such as the Thunder Bay and District Health Unit and Community Spokes.
You can find more information below.
EcoSuperior is an incorporated environmental not-for-profit organization, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
EcoSuperior believes that being active outdoors is crucial to achieving our mission of building a healthy future for people and the planet.
All programs at Safe Cycling Thunder Bay are delivered by EcoSuperior.
The City of Thunder Bay operates the Active Transportation Department that is focused on other ways of transportation than driving a car.
Thanks to city council’s hard work we can enjoy some great cycling paths throughout Thunder Bay, which we often use for our in-school bike programming, discovery rides and events.
The TBDHU partners with Safe Cycling Thunder Bay to improve cycling skills for school-age children, collaborates on WOW Tbay initiatives to promote active school travel, and encourages cycling skills classes for the general public.
Some public health nurses are certified safe cycling instructors who help deliver our program at the schools.
Community Spokes is a social business for people who use or need a bicycle. They provide second-hand bicycles and parts as well as the knowledge to maintain and repair them. They operate a retail storefront in downtown Fort William where you can use their tools and work on your bikes free of charge.
Community Spokes helps us with their bike-repair curriculum and provides bike mechanics during our bike-repair courses and during school events.
